X-ray orbital modulations in intermediate polars
We present an analysis of 30 archival ASCA and RXTE X-ray observations of 16 intermediate polars to investigate the nature of their orbital modulation. We show that X-ray orbital modulation is widespread amongst these systems, but not ubiquitous as indicated by previous studies that included fewer objects. Only seven of the sixteen systems show a clearly statistically significant modulation dep...
متن کاملOrbital period–Hα correlation in Be star/X-ray binaries?
Reig, Fabregat & Coe (1997) plotted the equivalent width of Hα emission against the orbital period for several Be star/X-ray binary systems, and find a correlation. If instead of the equivalent width, which is a relative quantity, the luminosity of Hα emission, which is an absolute quantity, is used the correlation is not found.
متن کاملSynthesis, X-ray Opacity, and Biological Compatibility of Ultra-High Payload Elemental Bismuth Nanoparticle X-ray Contrast Agents
Inorganic nanoscale X-ray contrast agents (XCAs) offer many potential advantages over currently used intravascular molecular contrast agents, including longer circulation and retention times, lower administration volumes, and greater potential for site directed imaging. Elemental bismuth nanoparticles (BiNPs) are particularly attractive candidate XCAs due to the low cost, the high atomic number...
متن کاملOrbital Parameters for the X-ray Pulsar Igr J16393-4643
With recent and archival Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) X-ray measurements of the heavily obscured X-ray pulsar IGR J16393-4643, we carried out a pulse timing analysis to determine the orbital parameters. Assuming a circular orbit, we phase-connected data spanning over 1.5 years. The most likely orbital solution has a projected semi-major axis of 43 ± 2 lt-s and an orbital period of 3.6875 ...
متن کاملGx 9+9: Variability of the X-ray Orbital Modulation
Results of observations of the Galactic bulge X-ray source GX 9+9 by the All-Sky Monitor (ASM) and Proportional Counter Array (PCA) onboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer are presented. The ASM results show that the 4.19 hour X-ray periodicity first reported by Hertz and Wood in 1987 was weak or not detected for most of the mission prior to late 2004, but then became strong and remained strong...
